How it works

The first job is deciding whether the process should be automated at all.

Automation should pay for itself in saved time, fewer mistakes, faster turnaround, or cleaner operations.

A simple project flow

01

Understand

Walk through the current workflow, systems, files, rules, handoffs, and where time is being spent.

02

Evaluate

Estimate whether the work is repeated enough, accessible enough, and valuable enough to automate.

03

Build

Create the right tool: a script, integration, internal app, dashboard, document processor, or background service.

04

Measure

Compare the improved workflow against the old process and check whether it is actually saving time.

Fit check

Good automation candidates have a few things in common.

The work does not have to be glamorous. It needs to be repeated, costly enough to matter, and describable enough for software to handle the routine parts.

Good candidates

  • Repeated frequently
  • Consumes meaningful staff or management time
  • Uses information software can access
  • Has rules, patterns, or consistent decisions
  • Creates delays, errors, or bottlenecks

Weak candidates

  • Happens rarely
  • Changes completely every time
  • Costs more to automate than it returns
  • Relies almost entirely on human judgment
  • Cannot provide reliable data access

That is a normal place to start. Send a rough description and I can help think through the fit.
